Hotel Babylon is a book by British journalist Imogen Edwards-Jones and “anonymous”. Anonymous is a General Manager that has spent the past 15 years working in some of London’s exclusive hotels. The book describes a day in the life in a top London hotel in a fictional hour-by-hour style format. The story is told through a receptionist who starts his day feeling under the weather! It exposes the exploits of the staff and guests alike. All events in the book are real and only the names of characters have been changed. The BBC also made television series Hotel Babylon based on this book. I particularly like the book as I’m able to relate to events in the book and know there are other people in the industry dealing with the same crap! I recommend this book to anyone, whether working in the hotel industry or not. It’s one of those easy to read books which you can pick up any time.
