Harry Fitz (Fish & Chips)

“Famous because it’s Fresh!”

One of Galway’s gems! I have been living in Galway for the past 6 months and have only now found out about this place. A friend told me that he had experienced the best fish & chips ever and I was dying to check this place out. Harry Fitz, one of the many little gems scattered around Galway city, is located on Shop St. directly across from Taffes pub. Their slogan “We are famous because we are Fresh” is nothing but true. Their fish menu changes quite often, offering daily specials such as Whiting, Plaice, Haddock, Cod and Silver Hake to name a few. Fortunately for me there was ray wing on the menu when I visited. Portion size is excellent and you can really taste the quality of fresh fish. A nice big piece of tender ray wing in a light crispy golden brown batter, with hand cut chips and a portion of tartar sauce. The tartar sauce was delicious, homemade with a tinge of garlic and lemon… mmm yummy! The fish cost €6.50 and chips were €2.60, reasonable as it’s all fresh.

Very small and simple corner shop that delivered the best ever fish & chip I had ever tasted! There is no seating area, just counter tops inside or outside where you can stand and enjoy your delicious fresh fish. There are other options for those that do not like fish; chicken, burgers etc.. A must try when in Galway for all people out there whether fish lovers or not.  I will definitely come back here again.
