Food – Life, Passion, Art & Fun!
Having experienced their sister restaurant Santé. I was eager to try Pig ‘Halle and came for lunch with friends. The waitress brought us some complimentary chef’s Pork rillettes, bread and salad to nibble on while we read the menu. Not really impressed with what the set lunch menu offered I decided to order my starter from the a la carte menu and mains from the specials board:
Salade du Perigord – Salad of Duck gizzard confit, smoked duck, smoked lardons, sautéed potatoes, poached egg, French dressing. (Nice salad but the egg was not runny, disappointing)
Special – Pan Fried Monkfish with Saffron and Mussels chowder. (Fish cooked well and the chowder bit too creamy, only ok)
When we arrived, around 2pm, the restaurant only had a few tables. A little surprised as a restaurant like this would probably be jam packed if it were in Glasgow or Edinburgh. The restaurants décor and ambience is very French. A mix of modern and classical French music soothes the brasserie styled room. The focus point on the wall is a map of the Parisian metro, which I found to be nostalgic as it brought back some memories of my time in Paris. (What a nightmare to get around on when I didn’t speak the language!) The waitress was French and service is more formal here compared to Santé. Friendly, attentive and efficient. Friends were happy with their meals and I was told certain dishes from the a la carte menu are to die for. Will certainly be back for a second visit.
